You guys, I'm SOOOOO excited for today. Today kicks off the spring round of the One Room Challenge. If you're new here and wonder what the One Room Challenge is; basically it's a challenge hosted by Calling It Home. The challenge takes place over the course of 6 weeks and challenges each participant to makeover or spruce-up a neglected room. Every Thursday for the next 6 weeks you will see a One Room Challenge update. The final week, you get to see a room reveal. How fun is that?! So, yay It's One Room Challenge Time Again!

I did do a few small updates at the beginning of the year on the guest bedroom and it's now exactly what we imagined.
A few small touches totally amped up the space making it even cozier than before. Check out the refreshed, eclectic bedroom:

So now that you know what the plan is, let me show you the space.
Are you like, "Ashley, that space is finished! What are you doing"?
We did "finish" the space a few years ago and, to be honest, I still have a similar style. But, we finished the space within the budget that we had and there were quite a few things that didn't work, weren't functional or we used because it fit the budget. Over the past few months (or seasons), I have axed quite a few things. Pieces that I didn't love (following the KonMari Method) were given the boot. So, the bedroom has been a bit empty. I've found a few pieces here and there but just haven't given them much love to update or actually style/finish the space.
Let's check out all the original pieces that have been given the boot or will be given the boot.
I'm just tired of some of the things and other pieces, we are just ready to upgrade. The nightstands have never been amazing. They are small for the room and have never fit our style very well. They were an awesome thrift store find and have been great for the past 4 years, but we are just ready to upgrade to real nightstands.
I posted all about the lamp issues in this Ugly Truths post.
All of these things were relocated to other places in the house. The dresser now sits in the guest bedroom where it fits great. The decor pieces are just here and there.
I still love the gallery wall around the television, but it needs to be updated.
Next week, I'll be back with the few things that have been thrifted over the past few months and explain where I want to go with decorating.

So, so excited to see your redo! With that new piece of art, it will be incredible. And by the way, you convinced me to do an entry refresh - I'm simultaneously appreciative yet totally plan to blame you when I can't get it done in time - ha! 🙂
Ashley Mayes
I'm a bit worried it won't be very dramatic! I still like the paint color so when you leave paint the same - it's a bit boring. oh well, I'm not doing it for others... just myself. SO Glad you are doing it again.
cassie @ primitive & proper
can't wait to see what you do- your last ORC space was KILLER.
Ashley Mayes
I don't have any dramatic makeover plans this time... just a refresh. But still, I'm excited to participate.
Kristi
I totally get the need to get rid of those things that you no longer love and instead surround yourself only with things that truly spark joy! Cannot wait to follow along Ashley!
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Kristi! When we first moved here, I bought things that I liked but didn't love to just help fill the space. Now, I'm totally ready to move on from that. Purging is the name of the game.
Brittany
I love the giant Xs over everything--hilarious! I do love this room, but I know with a refresh it will only get better! Now I want to see the PLAN!!
Ashley Mayes
I may have had a bit of fun with that! The plan is coming - next week. =)
Sam | Away She Went
I'm excited to see what pieces you're going to add! Good luck!
Ashley Mayes
Thanks! I've thrifted quite a few but am also adding some fresh things. I'm excited to see it evolve as well.
Lianna@theresnoplacelikehomemke
a fresh update is always a good idea! loved your last challenge I am sure this one will far from disappoint! good luck!
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Lianna. I don't think I can top the last ORC, but that's ok! I think I'll end up with a space that I love either way.
Aniko @Placeofmytaste
I love your style and this little refresh sounds like a fun one! I'll be following along for sure!:-) Xo
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Aniko. We definitely share a similar style - which is fun. Can't wait to follow along on yours as well.
Jen @ Fresh Crush
I'm totally on board for ditching the stuff you don't love! Can't wait to follow along!
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Jen! I'm still working on giving things the boot, but I'm getting closer.
Erin
Ok I am totally intrigued with this! The room looked so good before but I understand changing things up as time goes on and you're not under a timeline or budget constraints. But I'm dying to see what new things you're bringing in!!! Whatever the pieces are, chances are high that I'll love them all! 🙂
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Erin. I'm still debating on the wall color. I really like it but yet, it's not completely me. I think I may do things backwards and just wait till the end to see how it all plays out.
Amy Carrillo @ Love On Sunday
I'm with you on the Konmari Method! We got rid of so much as well. I can't wait to see what you come up with. I know it's going to be amazing!
Ashley Mayes
It feels so good to purge! I'm trying to do the makeover on a pretty strict budget - it's a bit nerve-wracking. =)
Erin @ Lemons, Lavender, & Laundry
You always do amazing things during these ORCs. Excited to see the progress!
Ashley Mayes
You are so sweet! Thank you. It's baby steps over here for sure.

Great website! I like to see how you think through design changes. Just moved into our first home a month ago...it's 200 years old, and needless to say it needs a lot of refreshing! But first room we're painting is our nursery, and I have been looking for a color like the one in this room. Looks so fresh! Can you please share the name of the color- I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks- Susan
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Susan! The white is Ultra White by Valspar. It's a bright white (almost with a slight blue undertone). I really love it. We used the same white in our eat-in kitchen and love it in there as well.
