It's time for another Repurpose, Recycle and Reuse post! This month it has been a bit hard to come up with a project that I could share. To be honest, we have been playing so hard through the week and the weekend that not much DIY has been going on! It's been all about making memories and I know that these memories that we are making are more important than any house projects. But, yep there is a but, if I don't do any projects around the house then I get a bit depressed. This is a fixer-upper so at least some fixing has to happen!
We are still trying to focus on the hallway bathroom and kitchen. So, in keeping with those, I was able to narrow down a project... some art for our kitchen!
I actually picked out this piece (I got it in a larger size, but it looks like it's not available in that size anymore) of art before Christmas and got it for a Christmas present. I've been hoarding it for our kitchen for months!
A few months ago, I had my Mom pick up an Ikea Frame but I felt pretty blah about it.
Luke and I know the direction that we want to go in the kitchen and it's a little bit rustic & modern. We want want to mix metals and wood finishes. When I thought about that, I thought adding some wood to the mix would be a good idea.
We used ¼ inch plywood cut to the size of the frame.
Next up was tackling the frame itself.
I covered both sides of the glass (I would have taken it out but it was glued in) with plastic and then gave it a few coats of gold spray paint.
After letting it dry overnight, I brought everything back inside and put it all back together.
Annoyingly, I didn't have the right hardware to hang it back up because the original hardware didn't fit back on the back of the frame after the extra plywood was added. So for now, you get to see pictures of it just propped up.
I think for a few bucks, this turned out great. It's definitely helping us bring in warmth to the wall, yet it's still modern and clean.
As with every month, I've joined with a few bloggers to bring you more recycled and upcycled projects. I love how the projects came together this month and I can't wait for you to see them!

I love how this turned out! Personalizing things from Ikea is a great way to save some cash. By the way, I have become a major fan of using Command strips to hang things on the wall. You can use them on just about any frame, and they make it easy to move your artwork as your decor evolves. So that could help you out with getting that artwork hung up!

Thanks for the tip on the command strips. I've used them once or twice, but I've never thought about being able to move them easily with them!
