Hi Guys! Lately my mind has been overrun with all kinds of ideas, thoughts, to-do lists, and more. Sometimes, when my mind won't settle down, I'll make a drink, sit on the patio and think through everything that's going on. You should join me. Make yourself a drink and join me for a Happy Hour Chat.
If you were coming over to my house, I'd make some margaritas or open a bottle of wine. I love a good lime margarita but I am itching to try this jalapeño margarita. Luke always orders one of those at our favorite mexican restaurant and I'd like it a lot if it wasn't quite as spicy. At home, we could make it as spicy, or not, as we wanted.
If you'd rather not have margaritas then I'd open my favorite bottle of wine - 19 Crimes.
Now, that we've settled on a drink - let's relax on the patio and just chat.
What's been going on with your life? Any craziness with work, school, kids, activities, DIY projects, etc.? I know the answer to that is 'yes', but please tell me more.
Our life has felt overwhelmingly full the last two weeks. We have worked and worked on moving every.single.thing.that.we.own out of the kitchen, dining room, eat-in kitchen, living room, hallway, loft, master bedroom and playroom/library. All the furniture, decor, plants and more got relocated to the sunroom. We did this so that our floors could be installed. But, that was just round-one. Round two involved taking up all the carpet, padding, tack strip and staples to prep for the floor. To say that I have a crick in my neck is putting it mildly.
The flooring guy just called and said that he'll be a day later than he thought to install. One of the jobs is going a bit late. I really wanted to get frustrated. We've had our oven and fridge moved out of the kitchen, gas lines capped off and are now eating every meal on the patio. Anyways, you know this already because we are having happy hour on the patio. =)
If I can get through this next week, then it will be good. Amazing in fact.
Do you have any trips planned for the summer? Where's your favorite place to travel?
I'm headed out to NYC next week for a blog trip. I'm excited and nervous. I'm going by myself which is never as fun as going with the hubby. Other than that, Luke and I are going to Costa Rica in about a month. It's our 10 year anniversary this year - can you believe we've been married 10 years? How long have you been married?
I won't keep you, but in honor of a 10 year marriage and a love of wine... this is pretty perfect for me.
Want to keep having happy hour chats? Anything in particular you'd like to chat about?

sounds like your week was crazy! it's been here as well... maybe one day it will all calm down but then i won't know what to do with myself. and HOORAY for costa rica! we went for our first anniversary and it was my favorite trip ever.
Ashley Mayes
For sure! Sometimes, I wonder if I just create my own crazy. lol. Good to know! We got a fantastic deal, so either way, I think it will be great.
Carrie
Whew, sounds like a whirlwind! And removing carpet is such a pain, but your new floors will be amazing! Looking forward to seeing how different everything looks once they are in.
Ashley Mayes
Yes! I never want to remove carpet again. It was seriously a pain but definitely doable. Thanks so much Carrie.

You do make a mean margarita 😉
Pulling up carpet is NO FUN. I remember pulling the carpet up in my parents living room and the old owner had stapled a full line of staples down the pad like every 12" - oh my gosh it was awful. We've pulled lots of carpet up since then, but that one was definitely the worst!
I think we've decided to go to Colorado this summer. YAY! Neither of us has ever been, so we're excited.
Costa Rica would be AMAZING! Craig and I did not plan our 10 year anniversary well, it was last year, and we had bought our house, so we didn't have any money. I guess we can say we bought a house for our anniversary but it's just not quite the same as a relaxing trip 😉
NYC is such a fun town, you will have a blast!
Can't wait to see the new floors!
Ashley Mayes
Haha! You need to come back for more. =) I think overall the carpet was terrible but it was the amount of rooms that we had to do. The circle stairs on the other hand were a nightmare. So many staples.
You will have a blast in Colorado. There's so much to do.
I'd say a house for a 10 year anniversary is awesome. Plus, your house is awesome and that land is perfect.
I hope NYC goes well. I'm not looking forward to the travel portion but I think it will be fun.

EEK! I cant wait to hear about your trip to Costa Rica! My fiancé and I are looking at going there for our honeymoon next year. I saw you said you got a great deal. Mind sharing? This will be our first big trip to plan and we're kind of struggling to figure everything out.
Ashley Mayes
Of course not! We booked one of the 48 hour deals that Expedia runs (go to their site and look at the deals). It was a bundled thing but super inexpensive.
For our honeymoon, we went to Couples Negril and loved it. Thought I might throw that out there. Congrats on the engagement!

Awesome, thanks for the tip!!!
Ashley Mayes
You are quite welcome.

blog trip to NYC sounds fun! And jalapeño margarita sounds yummy. Can't wait to see your floors
Ashley Mayes
It will be interesting for sure! It's for the Hometalk meeting so we shall see what happens. Thanks Julia!

Love your happy hour chat Ashley! I wish we had these in real life, but internet will have to do. I can totally relate to carpet-tear-out-misery - been there more than once. And stairs are the worst. BUT, you get to look forward to a fun trip and new floors, which makes it all worth it. I'll have been married 13 years this summer (ahhh, crazy) but our 10 year anniversary was a particularly wonderful trip. Hope yours is too!! xo
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Brit! It's so funny, because I really think I would have the best time with some of my blogging/DIY friends. It's kinda sad that they (you!) are spread across the country. 13 years?! Congrats to you on that one! We had been planning to go to Thailand for this trip, but timing just didn't work out. I'm excited about Costa Rica though and just general relaxing time.
Anni
My husband and I went to Costa Rica several years ago and it's one of our favorite places we've ever visited. Sometimes we even daydream about moving there. It was so relaxing and all the nature stuff is just amazing. 🙂
Ashley Mayes
Yay, I'm excited to hear that. Luke and I loved Kauai last year and daydream about moving there and opening a bed and breakfast. #maybesomeday
