    Bathroom Budget Breakdown

March 21, 2013 by Ashley Mayes 4 Comments

We consider this bathroom remodel as Phase 1 (or the phase we live with for the next 5-10 years). Long term goals are to enlarge our master bathroom by making the upstairs (which we are currently talking about) bathroom smaller. I don't see any reason why a hallway bathroom needs to have a 12 foot countertop. So, long-term we are going to be redoing this bathroom (or shall I say, hiring someone to do it). The goal this time around is to make the bathroom livable (no disgusting carpet) and feel like it belongs in our house. We would like to do that wisely and not shell out a ton of money for something that we know we want to eventually change. That being said, some of the things that we are buying can be re-used in future bathroom remodels (we have two other bathrooms that need gut jobs). Ok, so let's revisit the mood board and then I will get on to the budget breakdown.

    Upstairs Bathroom

    1. Geometric Vase – Marshalls, TJMaxx or Gordman’s

    2. Concrete Vinyl Tile – Home Depot

    3. Brown Wood Hamper – Bought one at Goodwill for $19.00. May need another one, but will wait to see.

    4. Tali Bath Mat – West Elm $29.00

    5. Pinstripe Fabric - Changed our mind on doing a roman shade. We are going to do "frosted" windows instead.

    6. Modern Bathroom Hardware: I love this collection at Restoration Hardware.

    7. Pleated Bath Mat – I’m thinking that these would look good under each sink.

    8. Duckling Close-up – I am in love with this piece of art. Plus, I think it adds the right touch of whimsy for the bathroom that Greyson will use all the time.

    9. Book Rack – Ordered this from Amazon. $11.00

    10. Striped Towel – I would like a few of each.

    * Some of the things on the mood board didn’t have a number. I have these things already or something really similar.

So, that brings us to the budget breakdown.

    Budget & (Actual)

    1. Lighting $300 ($260 for sconces but need to update grates on the can lights)
    2. Flooring $250
    3. Bathtub Update $50
    4. Bathtub Tile Update $50
    5. Sinks $100
    6. Hardware $100
    7. Outlets $10
    8. Grate Cover $20
    9. Rugs/Towels $70
    10. Decor $100
    11. Mirrors $20 ($100 actual - decided to buy new instead of painting)
    12. Paint $50 ($75 actual - needed extra primer)

    Total $1120

So, we are already over-budget. I think Luke and I both view the "budget" as a guideline of where we would like to be. I'm not going to say no to something just because we are $20 over/under here or there. The "budget" basically tells me whether or not I can get marble floors or designer lights. =) Sadly, the marble floors are out of budget this time around.

I love the colors. My favorite is the light you picked. I have such a hard time with vanity lights because I usually can't stand any of them. I also just bought towels at Target that are in the same colors as your colors up there.

Thanks for telling me about the towels...hopefully, I can swing by Target and check them out. The sconces are from Restoration Hardware. They were a bit pricey, but well worth it. They are seriously gorgeous in person. =)

It's funny because I was just telling my husband last night that it has taken so long to get to this point that I don't like what I have to decorate it with. Ha. I bought stuff on Black Friday 2 years ago and saved it back until we got to the point of wanting to decorate. Now, my taste has changed.
