    Freshening up an Outdoor Bench

July 11, 2013 by Ashley Mayes 11 Comments

I was missing in action on Wednesday, sorry about that. Luke and I had our 7 year anniversary and we took a night to celebrate (without the kiddo). We went to this pizza place that we had been to (way back in the day) to see if it was as amazing as Luke remembered it to be. Do you see where this is headed? Very rarely are things as great as you remember them to be. It was a total dive and not amazing, but we were able to reconnect and have fun. That's all that matters.

    Anyways...

Last month, I told you guys that I had a bench that I was considering using for our front porch. It was free and not what I had in mind, but it was FREE. I had been thinking that our front porch needed a bench and I was totally thinking about something like this:P13825102

At $121, the bench is a good deal. But, it can't compete with free. Do you hear me?

So, this is what I started with:

close up of bench on porch

After sanding, painting (spray + weather protectant), and recovering the cushion; the little bench now looks like this:

    benchandwreath

Pretty drastic, right? I really think it turned out well and it looks great with the rug. However, it does NOT look good with the boxwood wreath. I'm thinking the wreath may end up being painted. Periwinkle? I'll have to think on that.

    Total cost:

    Bench - Free

Fabric - Free (had it leftover from the entryway project)

Spray Paint - Free (had it in the garage)

    Spray Protectant - $5.99

    Piping - $1.99

    Total - $7.98

    Have a great weekend!

Looks really good, love the free aspect. Instead of painting the wreath, could you put pops of the turquoise in it? Like painted wood flowers or clay pots nestled into it? Though painted would also be really cool and give a definite statement from the street. hmmm leaning towards the big pop instead of the little pops now.

Good idea, Libby. I'll have to to think on it. If I added accents then, I could possibly keep it year around.
