Wow, I'm completely off this week. I totally missed posting on Wednesday. We got ice here on Tuesday, so school was out on Wednesday. Then, Wednesday night we got snow, so school was out again on Thursday. Basically, all of that's to say that I'm a complete slacker and couldn't get my stuff together. =) Anyways, I wanted to share some updated pictures of our Decluttered and Refreshed Guest Bedroom.
If you remember, our Guest Bedroom got a makeover last Spring. Yay, for the One Room Challenge and actually making us get stuff done! We finished the challenge, but there were a few things that I didn't love or we didn't have the budget to change. So, let's take a quick peek at the room reveal last year and I'll point out a few issues that I had.
I always thought that this room needed a large rug to help keep it anchored. At the time of the reveal, we didn't have the budget to get one. *Spoiler alert, we have one now and it's perfect.
I liked the styling of this bedside table when I did it but the plant died in the planter. After that, I don't know. I just realized that it felt busy. The white geometric thing was a himmeli wreath fail that I had spray painted white. I finally gave up on that and threw it in the trash.
This bench worked ok in there, but didn't fit the space great. Plus, I really like it in our living room. So, it got the boot.
During the reveal, I never even showed one wall because it was bare. We switched some things up in our master bedroom and brought a small dresser in for that wall.
Ok, ready to see where we're at?
Left: Last Year / Right: Current
It's similar, yet different. Both are nice, but I love the 'current' view. Let's chat about some of the changes.
The cross-planter was a thrift score from years ago. It floated around in our kitchen for awhile; I toyed with hanging it on the wall, but I think I finally found its permanent spot here. The jute-looking planter on top is actually a basket with faux succulents in it. That window is actually perfect for real plants, but I don't have any that I want to move there right this second. So, faux it is.
Can we talk about the rug? Holy gorgeousness, right? I believe it's discontinued but it was from Lulu & Georgia. It totally helps anchor the space.
The styling on this nightstand changed. There used to be a wood slice, geometric shape, and picture on it, but I was craving something simpler. I ended up with the decanter, gold candle and books. I'm liking it right now.
The campaign handle fell off (oops, instead of sticking it back on... I just stuck it in the drawer). #keepingitreal
Again, doesn't the rug add so much to the space. Make sure to focus on the rug here and not the plastic bins under the bed. =)
This dresser used to be in our master bedroom but works great in here. I had fun decorating this little spot. The geometric vase is from West Elm. The marble ball thing is from Target. The gold medallion is from Crate and Barrel. Do you remember when I did a knock off of the gold medallion? I liked it, I really did. But, I LOVED the original piece. I put the original piece out of my mind, to some degree, but I really loved it. Luke surprised me with it for Christmas.
This spot changed as well. First off, I moved the smaller bench back to the living room. Next, I moved in my hope chest that my Grandpa built for me. Originally, I didn't think it would fit there, but it just fits perfectly. On the wall, I hung my mirror bunting that used to hang in our bedroom.
There's not any drastic changes from last year, but they are all good changes. Changes that make me love the room more. Changes that helped me get rid of things that I didn't love. I'm not saying that I love everything in the room and if I was following the method for getting rid of things (like I do with my clothes) then I would be getting rid of the fan and the right nightstand. BUT, I'd rather have a light in the room and a nightstand on the right side, even if they are things that aren't my favorite. Maybe, eventually, they will get changed out. Maybe not. We'll just have to see.
Anyways, who's coming for a weekend stay? I've got the room ready.

Love the progress! That rug is awesome and your hope chest is gorgeous. What's in yours? Mine is filled with all the stuffed animals from when I was a kid LOL #hoarder
Ashley Mayes
Thanks! Oh man, random sentimental things for the most part - two old stuffed animals, a Bible, some wedding things, etc.

LOVE that rug! i saw one that was similar in a rugs USA ad and clicked to find it but it wasn't there- must have been the same deal with being discontinued. why oh why end a great thing so suddenly?!?!?
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Cassie! I did see that RugsUsa had a similar one. Maybe they'll get it back.
Amanda
What a fabulous guest room! I LOVE that rug!
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Amanda. The rug was definitely the missing part.

Where is that bed from?
Ashley Mayes
It's a DIY that you can find on my website here: https://biggerthanthethreeofus.com/mid-century-inspired-diy-bed/
If you want to buy a version of it, then if you go to the bottom of the page... I have linked the bed up. Thanks!
Andrea
Looks great! I love how calm it is and all the little collections styled throughout. Can I ask where you got the duvet cover? And also that awesome mirror bunting?!
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Andrea! Yes, the duvet is from Schoolhouse Electric and it's the Woodland Meadow collection. The mirror bunting is a favorite of mine from Etsy. I just updated the post with the direct link if you want to grab it from there. Thanks so much!

I love what you did with this room! Absolutely gorgeous. One question, any idea of where I can find a comforter like the one you have on the bed? I'm currently redoing my room after a big room and I'm trying to find a cute comforter to match the rest of my decor.
Ashley Mayes
Oh, thank you so much! I got it from Schoolhouse Electric.

Just a comment that a sturdy chest like that is a great thing to have in a guest bedroom . . . it's the perfect place to set an open suitcase.
I really like the room.
Ashley Mayes
Thanks Christina! My grandpa made the chest for me - so sentimental for sure!
Emily
Love it! Where did you find the bedding?
Ashley Mayes
I'm not sure if they have it anymore or not but it was from Schoolhouse Electric.
