*This room was revealed in 2015 but refreshed in 2016. Check out the eclectic guest bedroom as it is today.
We Made It! Yay! This is the Guest Bedroom Reveal which took place over six weeks as part of the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home. I’m calling this design, “modern and eclectic” but I’m not sure how to describe it best. Hippie? Boho? Clean? I’d say a little bit of all of those things.
If you need to catch up: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4 and Week 5
Ready for picture overload?
Quite the difference with the before/after. I can’t believe how calming and relaxed the picture on the right is compared to the left. I kinda feel bad that we had multiple guests stay with us before. Ha.
The bed is really the showstopper! It’s a DIY. Can you believe it? We modeled it after the Drommen bed at CB2. I love that bed, but couldn’t shell out $900 so we made one and saved about $700.
The little side table is a thrifted find that I topped with a DIY penny tiled tabletop. The brushstroke art is a DIY and the brass light is a DIY.
I fell in love with that little pocket change dish. Cassie from Primitive and Proper posted it as a #thriftscorethursday and I politely begged her to sell it to me. She’s a sweetheart. =) The wood behind the plant is just part of a tree that my Dad (hi Dad!) cut for my sister’s wedding. I ended up with quite a few of them and knew that I could put them to good use.
The wall hanging used to hang in our living room on the gallery wall, but I stole it for the bedroom. I’m not sure if it’s here to stay, but I’m liking it right now.
I thought the room could use a mirror, but I only had a small one (the one above). I decided to pair it with the plant hangers and I think they work well together on the wall.
The little bench has moved around in the house as well, but I really like it where it is now. I think it’s found its forever home.
My Grandma gave that painting to me a few years ago. I really love it against the green wall.
The wooden hanging planter is a DIY that I shared last week. It might be my favorite thing (besides the bed) in the room.

Love this reveal so much….I think the way you painted the wall is just perfection! All the little touches make this room such a unique space.
Thanks Gilly! I’ve been loving those half painted walls for quite a bit now and it seemed to be perfect choice for a room that doesn’t get used that often.
The bed looks so inviting! Well done 🙂
Thanks so much!
so pretty, ashley! it’s such a soothing and modern space!
Thanks Cassie! I’m sure it will evolve a bit. I didn’t show one side of the room because it needs a dresser but I’m hoping to score one sometime.
ps. thanks so much for the little dish. It makes me smile!
Oh my gosh Ashley, the room turned out fabulously! Cassie is just the sweetest, sending over that dish. Love that penny tile table!
I’m now going to obsessively wait for a tutorial on that absolutely stunning bed!
Thanks Trisha! She really is! You might have to wait until July for the tutorial…It’s going to be shown during a round for #knockoffknockoffs. =)
I’ll be anxiously awaiting 😀
lol. =)
I love this colour palette! It so soothing and inviting! way to go!
Thanks Sabrina! My husband thought I was crazy to pick that army green but I thought it would work in the end. I’m so glad that I stepped outside of my comfort zone and just went for it.
It’s absolutely gorgeous Ashley! What a tranquil space! TOO many lovely details to name, but I’m totally crushing on that hanging planter! SO pretty! And I cannot wait to hear all about that bed! LOVE it all my friend!
Thanks Kristi! The bed…I thought it was going to be a heart-breaker. It seriously had me sweating bullets until Tuesday night. The things we do for projects. Lol.

Thanks Erica. I shopped our house and pulled from here and there. Things move around here all the time, but we have the same general style in all of our rooms so it tends to work out.

Modern Glam… love that! Thanks so much Marty!
Dude, THAT BED!!!! Those walls! Heck, all of it. You absolutely knocked it out of the park. Can I please come stay??

Great job on the guest bedroom. What a transformation! I’m in love with that bed! And I love the plant hanger you made. Doesn’t it feel so good to have a beautiful space?
Oh my gosh, yes! It was just a dumping ground and now, I definitely will move my dumping ground to a different room. lol.
What a fabulous makeover! The green is so pretty and I love that you chose a non-neutral, neutral for the wall (if that makes any sense at all)! That wooden planter is awesome and I can’t believe you made the bed!! You rock!

Hi there!
I’ve just recently stumbled upon your blog and feel like I’ve found a kindred spirit! Love the style of this guest room! So many creative touches…you didn’t even mention the 1/2 painted wall! And your vignettes are so charming. I’d love to be a guest in this room. So calm and so home-y. Looking forward to more…
Thanks so much! I love meeting new friends!
Love, love, love the space! The first thought I had was “zen.” I think there’s a lot of underlying details that lean towards that zen/Asian aesthetic!
Thanks Girl! It’s a bit more “Zen” than my usual style, but I’m LOVING the change.
Sorry I’m so late. I really really love this and the photos of all the beautiful details are amazing. You outdid yourself and it is so you.
Thanks Julia! It’s a bit eclectic, but my style is totally leaning that way. It’s interesting to watch it evolve.
Great job! where did you find the wall planters?
Thanks Stacey. I picked them up at HomeGoods. They are “Max Studio” branded.
Love this makeover! Love the pictures! Saying hello from the found and forged link party!
