We feel like we have finally have a game plan for the entryway so I thought I would share it.
But, before we do that, let's take a trip down memory lane.
Before: (right when we moved in)
Present: (see more of the entryway details on the house tour tab)
I'm slowly inserting some gold into our decor. See the frame below (baby steps, people!).
Ok, let's talk about the future.
First things first… our front doors.
They are solid wood and functional, so we are definitely keeping them. However, we want to get rid of the dated, frosted curved glass. We want to get it out for two reasons: 1) we hate it and 2) we get no natural light in the entryway. And it's dark and depressing.
We have started inquiries to make changes but we have custom trim on the front of the door, so I'm stuck with needing a carpenter to match the trim.
We are looking to do something like this (just the glass - not the color):

If the top panels of glass weren't bringing in enough light, we could always do this later down the road:

The panels of glass from the mill were relatively inexpensive (I think they would have been about $150 total), so once we find a carpenter to make the trim we are good to go.
Next up, floors and stairwell.
We would love to take up the marble flooring (I know, call us crazy!) and replace it with hardwood flooring. When you walk to our front doors, you are standing on stone. Then you open the doors and you are on black marble. You look to the left and you see cream carpet, you look forward to the left and you see oak hardwood and then finally look forward to the right and you seen purple carpet. Our house is choppy enough as it is without having a million different types of flooring. I want to just make everything seamless with one type of hardwood.
I love both the hardwood color and the stairwell in the next picture.
I feel like it's both modern yet classic.
Up next, lighting.
We have this:
I would like to go with something like this:
But less glitzy, like this:

This might be a DIY with the style of the pendant in the second picture but with the arrangement of the first. Hmm, I'll have to convince Luke on the DIY part, but I think it's doable.
I see us getting our doors updated within the next year. If I can convince Luke to tackle the light ourselves then that would be a sooner rather than later project. The floors and stairwell will probably be a 3+ year project. We need to save some major mulah for that.
What do you guys think? Hopefully you all don't think I'm crazy.
On a side note, I apologize for the spacing of this post. I copied some HTML code and it screwed everything up. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to fix it.
