10 Awesome Easy Plaster Art Projects to Try for your Home!

February 5, 2024 by Ashley Mayes Leave a Comment

Check out these easy plaster art projects (also know as joint compound art) to add texture and interest to your walls!

I was looking around my home the other day and realized that I had this really great 36x36 framed art canvas but I didn't love the reproduction art on the canvas. It got me thinking about a project that I saw over and over again years ago; the joint compound art that everyone seemed to try.

I decided to research making art with joint compound. I found quite a few tutorials and even some with slightly different products used and decided to round-up some of my favorite textured canvas art pieces to share.

    Easy Plaster Art To Try

Most of these pieces use plaster or joint compound, but there's one or two that have mixed in mud or have used a modeling paste instead.

Erin used flexible modeling paste to make her textured wall art. She said that it's easier to work with than joint compound but it does cost more. She has a terrific step-by-step of this textured wall art project on her blog.

I love seeing the trowel lines on this textured canvas art. If you want to follow along on making one, Erika shared a great tutorial on her art with joint compound.

This DIYer had to buy all the supplies (she lists them if you are curious) but these two large pieces of art still came in under $75!

I love the neutral feel to this whole space and feel like the art adds interest without being overly eye-grabbing. There's a good tutorial on this texture art, too!

When you like a project so much, you do it twice. That's what Our Southwest Nest did! She shared the how-to on her second one.

I loved the close-up photo on this textured wall art. I feel like this canvas was done with a smaller trowel which does give the painting a slightly different feel.

The color choice on this one feels interesting, doesn't it? I feel like something like this would work well in my sunroom.

This DIYer was inspired by some textured wall art at a big box store but figured she'd try to do it herself for way less money. She posted a tutorial for her textured canvas art because it turned out so well!

I still love these and am thinking hard about making a textured art piece of my own. I think it would be fun to experiment with and, honestly, I think we have all the supplies to try it.
