Awesome teen bedroom ideas for boys' rooms and girls' rooms to get you inspired to make your teen's room amazing!
When it comes to designing a teen's bedroom, there are a lot of factors to consider. Teenagers are at a unique stage in their lives where they are transitioning from childhood to adulthood, and their bedroom should reflect this. The ideal teen bedroom should be a space that is both functional and stylish, and that allows the teen to express their personality and interests.
Some teens may prefer a more mature and sophisticated look, while others may want a space that is fun and playful. It's important to take the teen's interests and personality into account when designing their bedroom, as this will help ensure that they feel comfortable and happy in their space.
Additionally, functionality is key when it comes to designing a teen's bedroom (honestly, creating functional spaces is key in all rooms, not just bedrooms!). The space should be organized and easy to navigate, with plenty of storage solutions to keep clutter at bay.
I don't know about you, but in our household, clutter seems to accumulate the most in my son's bedroom. From art to sports awards to things that friends give him, there's a never-ending amount of clutter that needs to be gone through at all times.
Teen Bedroom Ideas To Consider
Designing a teen bedroom can be a challenging task. Teenagers are at an age where they are developing their own unique personalities and tastes, which can be reflected in their bedroom design. Here are some things to keep in mind when designing a teen bedroom:
Colors
Color is an important aspect of any bedroom design, but it can be especially important in a teen bedroom. Teenagers may have strong opinions about what colors they like and don't like, so it's important to involve them in the color selection process. Bold, bright colors can be a good choice for a teen bedroom, but it's important to balance them out with neutral colors to avoid overwhelming the space.
My son wanted color in his room but we opted to bring it in with a light blue paint color that changed with the sunlight and do a mural on one wall for more of a punch.
Storage
Teenagers tend to accumulate a lot of stuff, so storage is an important consideration when designing a teen room. Built-in storage solutions can be a good choice, as they can be customized to fit the specific needs of the teenager.
If you are choosing to do a free-standing storage option, you can also bring in color, specific to kid's wants, on the storage piece instead of painting the walls.
In general, a combination of open and closed storage can be a good choice, as it allows the teenager to display some of their favorite items while also keeping clutter at bay.
Functionality
A teen bedroom should be functional as well as stylish. This means including furniture that serves a purpose beyond just looking good. A desk can be a good choice for a teen bedroom, as it provides a dedicated space for homework and studying. A comfortable chair or bean bag can be a good choice for a reading nook.
Personalization
Teenagers want their room to reflect their personality and interests, so it's important to incorporate elements that are meaningful to them. This can include artwork, posters, and other decorative items that reflect their hobbies and interests.
You can find free art prints too, so it's not like the personalization of your kid's space has to cost a ton. Here's a post on free art prints that I did. Another idea is to create bucket list art specific to their interests. Have they ever wanted to visit all the states or see all the MLB stadiums?
4 Main Design Principles
When designing a teen bedroom, I think there are four main design principles to keep in mind.
1) Incorporating Personality
One of the most important aspects of designing a teen bedroom is incorporating their personality into the space. For example, if the teen is into sports, incorporating sports-themed decor or colors can be a great way to showcase their interests. Alternatively, if the teen is into music, incorporating musical elements such as posters or instruments can be a great way to personalize the space.
2) Creating Comfort
Another important aspect of teen bedroom design is creating a comfortable space. This can be achieved through the use of comfortable bedding, soft lighting, and comfortable seating.
3) Optimizing for Sleep
Sleep is essential for overall health and well-being, and it is important to design the teen bedroom with this in mind. This can be achieved through the use of blackout curtains, comfortable bedding, and a comfortable mattress.
4) Ensuring Privacy
Finally, it is important to ensure that the teen bedroom provides adequate privacy. This can be achieved through the use of curtains or blinds that can be closed for privacy, as well as by creating a layout that allows for separate spaces within the room.
