Calm, Layered and Minimal Master Bedroom

April 4, 2014 by Ashley Mayes 102 Comments

Guys,  I’m so happy to say that our master bedroom is finished! It has taken us a few tries (from lampshades to duvet covers to curtains) to get things right, but it finally feels ‘right’ to us. Fair warning: I’m totally going to bombard you with pictures!

Come on in…

Light and Bright Master Bedroom

Sherwin Williams Rainwashed Paint for Master Bedroom

The footstool got a makeover with some fun fabric that I had in the basement. I finally figured out how to update the wicker hanging lamp in the corner. I brushed on bright white paint (lightly) and then used an upholstery needle and thread to cover the old edging. It was time-consuming, but totally worth it.

West Elm Dresser paired with a DIY Painted canvas and family photos

Light and Bright Master bedroom

I still really love the DIY sunburst mirror over the bed.

Gallery Wall behind tv in master bedroom

Nothing is going to make that t.v. be less of an eyesore, but I enjoy the gallery wall behind it.

Garage Sale Artwork in Master Bedroom Gallery wall

The floral painting was a $1.50 find at a garage sale last summer.

Kids artwork in gallery wall behind television

Greyson drew (with Luke’s help) the top piece of art for Christmas for me. I’m glad I had space to incorporate it.

DIY Bamboo Blinds in Master Bedroom

DIY Bamboo Shades and Bamboo Planter Pot

I like how the diy bamboo blinds pair with the updated pot and tiled plant stand. I really think the fresh plants and the texture of the bamboo make that little area over by the window.

Light and Airy Master Bedroom Reveal with lots of DIY! You won't believe the before/after!

Master Bedroom before and after by Bigger Than The Three of us

There are so many DIY projects in the room. I love how they turned out and I love the fact that, with some of them, you wouldn’t even know they were DIY. I love the fact that we were able to mix mid-price pieces (West Elm bed frame, dresser, etc) with DIY pieces ($30 dollar headboard, bamboo shades, no sew pillow, tiled table top, sunburst mirror, etc) to achieve something cohesive.

Now, if I could only replicate that feeling throughout our whole house.  I’m not going to think about that and instead, go lay on bed and read a book. Hope ya’ll have a great weekend!
